Joy Levitt

Rabbi Joy Levitt is the Chief Executive Officer at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan, which is one of the largest Jewish Community Centers in the world. Rabbi Levitt previously served congregations on Long Island and in New Jersey. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Barnard College and a Master’s degree in American Studies from New York University. Ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, she is the founder of the Jewish Journey Project, an initiative designed to revolutionize afternoon Jewish education for children, and is the co-author of ‘A Night of Questions: A Passover Haggadah.’ In addition to Israel Story, Joy serves on the boards of the Shefa School, Plaza Jewish Community Chapels and the Jerusalem Foundation. She is married to Rabbi Michael Strassfeld, and together they have five children and three grandchildren.
